Kelly Brown (born June 8, 1982) is a Scottish rugby coach and a former player. He played as a flanker, which is a key position in rugby. Kelly played for the Scotland national team 64 times. He also played for several club teams like Glasgow Warriors, Border Reivers, and Saracens. After he stopped playing in 2017, he became a coach. He worked with Saracens' academy, then as an assistant coach for Glasgow Warriors, and later returned to Saracens.

Kelly's Early Life and School

Kelly Brown was born on June 8, 1982, in Edinburgh, Scotland. He grew up in a town called Melrose in the Scottish Borders. Kelly went to Earlston High School when he was younger.

Kelly's Club Rugby Career

Kelly Brown started his professional rugby career playing for the Border Reivers. He played there until the club closed down in 2007. After that, he joined the Glasgow Warriors team.

On January 19, 2010, Kelly signed a contract to play for Saracens, a big club in the English Rugby Premiership. He helped Saracens win their very first Premiership title in 2011. Kelly stopped playing rugby professionally in 2017.

Kelly's International Rugby Career

Kelly Brown played his first game for the Scottish national team on June 5, 2005. This match was against Romania, and Kelly even scored a try in his debut game!

He was part of the Scotland team for the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Kelly played in five matches during that tournament, scoring another try against Portugal.

During the 2011 Six Nations tournament, Kelly got injured while playing for Scotland against England. He had to leave the field. However, he recovered and was back in the Scotland squad for the 2011 Rugby World Cup. He started the first three games in that competition.

On October 30, 2012, it was announced that Kelly would return from another injury to captain Scotland. This game against New Zealand was his 50th match for Scotland. He became the 32nd player to reach 50 caps for his country. In total, Kelly played for Scotland 64 times, and he was captain in 14 of those games.

Kelly also played for the Scotland rugby sevens team. He competed in the 2005 Rugby World Cup Sevens in Hong Kong. He scored two tries in that tournament, helping Scotland reach the final eight teams.

Kelly's Coaching Journey

After he stopped playing rugby, Kelly Brown started a new role as a coach. He began coaching at Saracens' academy in 2017. In August 2020, he moved to become an assistant coach for his old team, Glasgow Warriors. However, he returned to Saracens in February 2021 to continue his coaching career there.

Kelly's Family Life and Other Interests

Kelly Brown is married to Emily, and they have two daughters named Amber and Aleenan.

Kelly has also learned to manage a stammer through a program called the McGuire Programme.

Interestingly, Kelly Brown is mentioned briefly on Pottermore (now wizardingworld.com), a website about the Harry Potter world. In a story written by J.K. Rowling, Kelly, along with other rugby players Stuart Hogg and Jim Hamilton, is jokingly suggested to be a squib. In the Harry Potter books, a squib is someone born into a wizarding family who doesn't have magical powers.
