Kelly Oxford's Early Life and Career

Kelly Oxford was born in Canada on November 29, 1977. She started her career path in a unique way.

Starting Out

In 1996, Kelly left Mount Royal University after just one semester. She began writing online, which is called blogging, to share her thoughts and stories. This helped her practice writing every day. Before becoming a famous writer, she worked as a waitress and in a shoe store.

Becoming a Full-Time Writer

In 2001, Kelly became a stay-at-home mom. She started focusing on an anonymous blog, where she could write freely. In 2009, she joined Twitter and quickly gained many followers. Famous people like Diablo Cody and Roger Ebert noticed her. Soon, agents contacted her, interested in her writing.

She sold a TV show idea to CBS, which was based on her life as a mom in Calgary. Actress Jessica Alba was set to help produce it. Kelly also wrote another TV show idea that NBC bought. However, neither of these shows were made. In 2012, Kelly moved to Los Angeles to continue her career.

Books and TV Appearances

In 2013, Kelly Oxford published her first book, Everything Is Perfect When You're a Liar. This book became a bestseller on the New York Times list. She also appeared on the reality TV show Candidly Nicole, which starred Nicole Richie.

In early 2016, Kelly and Molly McNearney, who is the head writer for Jimmy Kimmel Live!, worked on a comedy show for TV Land. This show was also based on Kelly's life, but it did not air.

On April 18, 2017, Kelly released her second book, When You Find Out the World is Against You: And Other Funny Memories About Awful Moments. While promoting her book on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, she shared a fun story. She explained that the popular "Mean Tweets" segment on the show started during a conversation with Jimmy Kimmel and Molly McNearney. They were reading funny, but sometimes harsh, tweets to each other and trying to make each other laugh.

Directing Films

In October 2020, Kelly Oxford made her debut as a director with the movie Pink Skies Ahead. The film premiered at AFI Fest.
