Kelvin is a small, quiet place in Rolette County, located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. It's known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a group of homes and buildings that don't have their own local government, like a city or town would. Instead, it's managed by the larger county government.

A Look Back: Kelvin's History

Kelvin was first established in 1888. That's over 130 years ago! The community was named after a very famous British scientist, William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin. He was a brilliant physicist and engineer who made many important discoveries, especially about heat and temperature. The Kelvin temperature scale, used by scientists around the world, is even named after him!

A post office opened in Kelvin in 1901. This was a very important service back then, helping people send and receive letters and packages before the days of email and cell phones. The post office served the community for many years, until it closed down in 1953.
