Early Life and Cricket Career
Ken Vowles was born in Darwin. He was a talented cricketer from a young age. From 1989 to 1990, he received a scholarship to attend the Australian Cricket Academy. This academy helps young, promising cricketers improve their skills.
During his time at the academy, Ken Vowles traveled internationally with the Australian Under-19 team. As an Under-19 player, he once held a special record. He scored the fastest century (100 runs) at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground. This record was later broken by the legendary cricketer Viv Richards.
Political Journey
In 2008, Ken Vowles decided to enter politics. He ran as a candidate for the Labor Party in the area of Blain. This was during the 2008 Northern Territory general election. However, he was not elected in that election. He was defeated by Terry Mills, who later became the Chief Minister of the Northern Territory.
Ken Vowles tried again in the 2012 Northern Territory general election. This time, he ran for the seat of Johnston. He was successfully elected as the member for Johnston. However, the government at the time, led by Paul Henderson, was defeated in that election.
After serving as a minister for two years, Ken Vowles stepped down from his ministerial roles in December 2018. This happened because he had different ideas about how to manage the Northern Territory's budget. He continued to serve as a member of parliament until he announced his resignation on 28 November 2019. His resignation became effective on 31 January 2020.
