Kendrick's College Football Journey
Kendrick Norton played college football at the University of Miami. In 2017, his junior year, he was recognized as one of the best players in his college conference, the Atlantic Coast Conference. He played in all 13 games for the Miami Hurricanes, starting 12 of them. During that season, he made 26 tackles, stopped opponents behind the line of scrimmage 6.5 times, and tackled the opposing quarterback twice (called sacks).
The year before, in 2016, Kendrick was also a top player. He started all 13 games and made 39 tackles, with 10 of them stopping opponents behind the line of scrimmage, plus two sacks. Even as a true freshman (a first-year college player) in 2015, he played in 12 games and made 19 tackles and one sack. Before college, Kendrick was a highly rated player from Jacksonville, Florida, and was even chosen for the Under Armour All-America Game.
Playing in the NFL
Carolina Panthers Team
Kendrick Norton was chosen by the Carolina Panthers in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL draft. He was the 242nd player picked overall. On September 1, 2018, he was waived (released) by the team. However, the very next day, he was signed to their practice squad, which is a group of players who train with the team but aren't on the main roster.
He was released again a few days later, on September 6, 2018. But the Panthers decided to re-sign him to their practice squad four days after that.
Miami Dolphins Team
On December 19, 2018, the Miami Dolphins signed Kendrick Norton. They took him from the Panthers' practice squad to join their main team.
On July 22, 2019, the Dolphins waived Kendrick again due to a non-football injury. This means his injury happened outside of football activities. Even though he was waived, the team decided to pay him his full salary for the season. The next day, he was moved to the team's reserve/non-football injury list.
Kendrick was waived with a non-football injury designation one more time on March 18, 2020.
Kendrick's Personal Life
On July 4, 2019, Kendrick Norton was involved in a very serious car accident. It happened while he was driving on Florida State Road 836 near Miami. He suffered multiple injuries that were so severe, his left arm had to be amputated (removed) at the scene of the accident.
Just two days after the accident, the NFL (National Football League) announced good news. Kendrick's medical bills would be covered. The costs would be paid by a combination of insurance from both the league and the Miami Dolphins team.
