Kenji Oba (大場 健史, Ōba Kenji, born August 14, 1967) is a former Japanese football player. He was born on August 14, 1967, in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. Kenji Oba played as a defender for several professional clubs during his career. He was known by a slightly different name, "大場 賢治", until April 1994.

Kenji Oba's Football Journey
Kenji Oba started his football career after finishing high school. He became a professional player in 1986.
Early Career and First Club
In 1986, Kenji Oba joined the Japan Soccer League club Nissan Motors. This was his first professional team. Even though he was part of the team for several years, he did not get to play in any official games during this time.
Success with Kashima Antlers
In 1991, Kenji Oba moved to Sumitomo Metal. This club later became known as Kashima Antlers. Here, he started playing in many matches and showed his skills as a defender.
A big change happened in Japanese football in 1992. The Japan Soccer League was replaced by a new, exciting league called the J1 League. Kashima Antlers became one of the top teams in this new league. In 1993, his team finished in second place in the J1 League. They also reached the final of the 1993 Emperor's Cup, showing how strong they were.
Later Years and Retirement
In 1995, Kenji Oba joined Kashiwa Reysol. This team had just been promoted to the J1 League. He played in many games during his first year with Kashiwa Reysol. However, in 1996, he played less often.
He then moved to Kawasaki Frontale in 1997. This club was part of the Japan Football League at the time. In 1998, he had fewer chances to play. Kenji Oba decided to retire from professional football at the end of the 1998 season.
