Kenny Washington (born May 29, 1958) is an American jazz drummer and music writer. He was born in Staten Island, New York. His brother, Reggie Washington, is also a talented musician who plays the bass.
About Kenny Washington
Kenny grew up in the Stapleton Houses area of Staten Island and went to P.S. 14 for elementary school. He later attended The High School of Music & Art, where he graduated in 1976. This school helped him develop his musical talents.
Kenny Washington has worked with many famous jazz musicians throughout his career. Some of these include Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, Lionel Hampton, and Betty Carter. He has played drums on many recordings and in live performances.
Besides playing music, Kenny also teaches. He is a professor at SUNY Purchase and The Juilliard School. These are both well-known music schools. He also writes articles about jazz musicians and the history of jazz music. His writings often appear in jazz album booklets.
