Kerani

Kerani (born in 1968) is a talented Dutch composer, who also arranges music for orchestras (an orchestrator), and helps create music recordings (a producer). She has Hungarian and German family roots. Kerani is known for her beautiful and detailed music, which often sounds like classical pieces. She creates music for many different projects, including documentaries, short films, and movie trailers. So far, Kerani has released eleven albums, each showing her special musical style. She has won the important ZMR (Zone Music Reporter) Music Award for Best Neo-Classical New Age Album three times in the US, which shows how much her music is loved in that style.

About Kerani

Kerani was born in Belgium to parents from Hungary and Germany. Today, she lives in the Netherlands. She started her own music company called Kerani Music, where she records and produces music. She also manages an art gallery called Toon Zaal 11 [1]. Both of her businesses are located in the same place near Maastricht.

Kerani's Early Life

Kerani grew up in Brussels, Belgium, with her three older brothers. She was the youngest in her family. When she was just four years old, her father bought a used piano. Kerani was immediately fascinated by it and could play tunes just by listening to them. Her parents quickly saw her musical talent and enrolled her in music school. From that moment on, music became a very important part of Kerani's life.

When she was 18, Kerani worked with some studio musicians to record two of her instrumental songs: Seagullsong and Oblivion. Her song Oblivion even became the theme music for a breakfast show on Radio 2 Flanders. During this time, she also sang and played keyboards in a band called Liaison.

Kerani's Music Career

In 2011, Kerani's music career really took off. She started composing music for several documentary films. In the same year, she released her first new age album, "Wings of Comfort." Just one year later, her second album, "The Journey," came out. Both albums were played a lot on the radio and helped Kerani become well-known in the music world. She also interviewed many international new-age artists for Peaceful Radio, a Dutch internet radio station.

Albums and Awards

Before her third album, Arctic Sunrise, was released in 2014, Kerani wrote music for several documentaries for the NWO, which is the Dutch organization for scientific research. She also rearranged many children's songs for a DVD called 't Steyntje zingt, made for children with disabilities. Arctic Sunrise became very popular, reaching #2 on the International Zone Music Reporter Chart for new-age music. It was played on hundreds of radio stations worldwide and won the ZMR Neo-Classical Album of the Year Award. One song from this album, Far Away from Home, was even rearranged for a wind band.

In 2015, Kerani released her fourth album, Equilibrium, which became a bestseller. She worked with many special guest musicians on this album, including Wilfred Sassen, the concertmaster of the South-Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and international artists like shakuhachi flute player Rodrigo Rodriguez. Equilibrium was nominated for Best Neo-Classical New Age Album by the ZMR and for Best Electronic Album by One World Music Radio in the UK.

In the spring of 2017, Kerani released her fifth album, Stardust. This album was about space and featured a large orchestra and choir, with 60 musicians in total! Stardust was #1 on the ZMR International Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart for two months and was nominated for two ZMR awards.

In 2018, Kerani launched her sixth album, Small Treasures. This album was very personal, with songs inspired by her own life experiences. It featured a string quartet and guest artists like Canadian flautist Ron Korb and Brazilian singer Carla Maffioletti. Small Treasures also reached #1 on the ZMR International Top 100 Radio Airplay Chart for two months and won the ZMR Music Award for Best Neo-Classical Album of 2018.

In September 2020, Kerani released Sands of Time, an album inspired by Greek mythology. The music describes beautiful things like Love, Beauty, Light, and Wisdom. Kerani said, "The myths and legends of ancient Greece may be old, but their human side is still important. We should use our love and knowledge to create beauty and bring peace to the world." Sands of Time was voted Best Neo-Classical Album of 2020 by both One World Music Radio and Zone Music Reporter.

In 2022, Kerani released The Water of Life, an album celebrating the power of water. This project included The Magic Strings Quartet and singer Gwenaelle Ghislain. One song, “The Blue Wonder,” was chosen as the music for a laser show at Enchanted Gardens, a popular event in the Netherlands. Kerani also created other music for this event, designed to match the different gardens.

In 2023, she released The Journey of Life, an album made with a German music company called RipCue Music GmbH. This album continued her signature style of cinematic, emotional music, perfect for both listening and for use in movies or TV.

Kerani’s 2024 album Silent Heart showed a new direction, focusing on healing, peace, and quiet reflection. She returned to her love for the piano, creating gentle and emotional pieces, softly joined by the Belgian Awouters Quintet. This album was more personal and calm compared to her earlier, grander orchestral works.

Kerani is currently working on two projects. She is arranging and producing an upcoming album for Norwegian singer-songwriter Cecilie Aurelia, which is expected to be released in late 2025. At the same time, Kerani is also creating her next solo album, which she plans to release in early 2026.

Music for TV and Film

Kerani also creates music specifically for the worldwide television and film industry. She works with her German publisher, Ripcue Music. Some of her notable works include Celtic Otherworld, an album with 31 songs, and "Journey of Life", which has 12 songs. Sometimes, Kerani is invited to speak about how she composes and arranges music, sharing her knowledge with others in the music world.

Radio Shows

From 2018 to 2023, Kerani produced and hosted two radio shows on One World Music Radio. Her show "Kaleidoscope" played many different kinds of new age music, from piano solos to classical-sounding pieces. In her show "Musings", Kerani interviewed important people in the new age music industry, like Moya Brennan and Andreas Vollenweider, to share their stories and contributions to music.
