Kerry Keith Robinson is a former professional baseball player from the United States. He was born on October 3, 1973. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for several teams.
Kerry Robinson's Early Life and Sports
Kerry Robinson started playing sports when he was very young. He played baseball and football for a group called N.Y.A. He also played ice hockey for the Valley Stars in St. Louis, Missouri.
He went to Hazelwood East High School. There, he was a star in two sports. He played on the 1989 Missouri State 5A Championship football team. He also holds the school record for the highest career batting average in baseball, hitting .517. For the ice hockey team, he scored 29 goals in one season, which was also a school record.
After high school, Kerry played baseball at Southeast Missouri State University. In his last year, he had an amazing 35-game hitting streak. This means he got a hit in 35 games in a row! At that time, it was one of the longest hitting streaks in college baseball history.
Kerry Robinson's Professional Baseball Career
The St. Louis Cardinals first chose Kerry Robinson in the 1995 baseball draft. In 1996, he played for the Single-A Peoria Chiefs. He was a top player in his league that year. He led the league with a .359 batting average. He also tied for the most stolen bases with 50.
Kerry played professional baseball for 12 years. This included time in both the major leagues and minor leagues. During his time in the minor leagues, he stole a total of 322 bases. This shows how fast he was!
He is known for a few unique things in his career. Kerry Robinson is the only player in MLB history to wear both the number 00 and the number 0 on his jersey. He wore 00 for the 1999 Cincinnati Reds and 0 for the St. Louis Cardinals from 2002 to 2003.
Kerry also had a memorable moment described in a book called Three Nights in August. He hit a game-winning home run that ended the game. This type of hit is called a "walk-off home run."
What Kerry Robinson Did After Baseball
Kerry Robinson stopped playing baseball in 2007. After his playing career, he became a financial advisor.
In 2018, Kerry had a great idea for the St. Louis Cardinals. He suggested bringing back their old "victory" blue jerseys. He worked hard to convince the Cardinals' president to use these uniforms again. His idea was a success!
Kerry also worked as a professional scout for the Cardinals. Scouts help find new talented players for the team.
In 2023, the Governor of Missouri, Mike Parson, chose Kerry Robinson to join the board of governors for Southeast Missouri State University. This is the same university where Kerry played college baseball. He was officially sworn into this role in September 2023.
