Kevin O'Hanrahan Haugh (born November 17, 1901 – died April 5, 1969) was an important Irish judge. He served in some of the highest courts in Ireland. He was a Judge of the Supreme Court, the highest court, from 1961 to 1968. Before that, he was a Judge of the High Court from 1942 to 1960. He also held the important job of Attorney General of Ireland from 1940 to 1942.

Who Was Kevin Haugh?

Kevin Haugh was a well-known figure in Irish law. He spent many years working as a lawyer and then as a judge. His career included some of the most important legal roles in the country.

Early Life and Education

Kevin Haugh was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1901. He went to school at Blackrock College. After that, he studied at University College Dublin. These schools helped him prepare for a career in law.

A Career in Law

After finishing his studies, Kevin Haugh became a lawyer. He was "called to the Bar" in 1925. This means he was officially allowed to practice law. In 1938, he became a Senior Counsel. This is a special title for experienced lawyers.

In 1940, he was chosen to be the Attorney General of Ireland. This person is the chief legal advisor to the government. He held this important role until 1942.

Becoming a Judge

In 1942, Kevin Haugh became a Judge of the High Court. The High Court deals with serious legal cases. For many years, he was known as the "Probate Judge." This meant he was an expert in succession law. This type of law deals with how a person's property and money are passed on after they die.

In 1961, he was appointed to the Supreme Court. This is the highest court in Ireland. Judges on the Supreme Court make final decisions on legal appeals. He retired from this role in 1968 and passed away the following year.

His Son, Also a Judge

Kevin Haugh's son, also named Kevin (1944–2009), followed in his father's footsteps. He also became a lawyer and later a judge. He served as a judge in the Circuit Court, which handles cases that are less serious than those in the High Court. He also became a judge in the High Court, just like his father. He was a very popular judge, and his career ended too soon when he passed away in 2009.
