Kevin Robert McNally (born 27 April 1956) is an English actor and writer. He started his acting career in 1976. He is most famous for playing the pirate Joshamee Gibbs in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Early Life
Kevin McNally was born in Bristol, England. He grew up in Birmingham, where he went to Redhill Junior School and Mapledene Junior School. Later, he attended Central Grammar School for Boys.
Acting Career
McNally's first professional acting job was at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre when he was only 16. In 1973, he won a scholarship to the famous Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA). Two years later, he won the Best Actor Bancroft Gold Medal, a top award at the school.
First Roles and Writing
In 1976, McNally appeared in the BBC show I, Claudius. The next year, he was a regular character in the second season of Poldark, playing Drake Carne.
Besides acting, McNally is also a writer. From 1991 to 1994, he wrote nine episodes of the TV show Minder with his writing partner. He also wrote for other shows like Boon.
The Pirates of the Caribbean Films
Many people know McNally as Joshamee Gibbs, the loyal first mate to Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. He is one of only three actors to have appeared in all five films in the series.
He also voiced the character of Gibbs in the video game Kingdom Hearts III and in a special story for the game Sea of Thieves. This makes him the only actor from the movies to play his character in the Kingdom Hearts series.
Other Famous Roles
McNally has acted in many other movies and TV shows. He appeared in two Second World War films, Valkyrie and Conspiracy.
In 2011, he played a character named Frank in the American TV show Supernatural. In 2012, he voiced Robert Faulkner in the popular video game Assassin's Creed III. From 2014 to 2017, he played Judge Richard Woodhull in the historical drama Turn: Washington's Spies.
McNally has also appeared in the popular science-fiction show Doctor Who. He first appeared in 1984 as Lieutenant Hugo Lang. In 2021, he returned to the show as Professor Jericho in the series Flux, and his character became a favorite among fans.
Personal Life
McNally was in a relationship with actress Stevie Harris, and they have two children.
In 1994, he met actress Phyllis Logan, who is known for her role in Downton Abbey. They married in 2011 and have a son together. The family lives in Chiswick, a part of London.
