Kevin James Porter (born April 11, 1966) is an American football coach and a former player. He is currently the head football coach for Central State University. He started this role in 2022. Porter played professionally as a defensive back in the National Football League (NFL).
Playing Career
Kevin Porter was chosen in the third round of the 1988 NFL Draft. The Kansas City Chiefs picked him. He played for the Chiefs from 1988 to 1992. After that, he joined the New York Jets for the 1992 and 1993 seasons. As a player, he was known for his skills as a defensive back. This position helps stop the opposing team's offense.
Coaching Career
After his playing days, Kevin Porter became a football coach. He has coached many teams at different levels. From 2006 to 2008, he was the head coach for the Kansas City Brigade. This team played in the Arena Football League (AFL). His record with them was 13 wins and 20 losses.
College Coaching
Porter has coached several college football teams. In 2010, he was the head coach at Avila University. He then became the athletic director and head football coach at Point University in Georgia in 2011. From 2016 to 2019, he led the team at Fort Valley State University. During his time at Fort Valley State, his teams won their conference division twice. They were first in the East division in 2016 and 2017.
Currently, Kevin Porter is the head football coach at Central State University. He started this role in 2022. His overall coaching record in college football is 31 wins and 60 losses.
