Kew Jaliens' Club Career Highlights
Starting at Sparta Rotterdam
Kew Jaliens began his football journey at Sparta. He made his first professional league appearance at just 18 years old. This happened on May 25, 1997, in an away game against FC Groningen, which Sparta won 2–1. In the next season (1997–98), Jaliens quickly became a regular player in the team's starting lineup. He played 68 league games for Sparta and scored 4 goals.
Moving to Willem II
In 1999, Jaliens joined Willem II. His first game for the club was on August 28, against FC Den Bosch. He scored his very first goal for Willem II on February 3, 2001, in a match against FC Twente Enschede.
Success with AZ Alkmaar
Jaliens signed with AZ in 2004. He played his first league game for them on August 14, which was a 1–1 draw with SC Heerenveen. He scored his first goal for AZ on March 16, 2005, in a game against Vitesse Arnhem.
In July 2007, he signed a new contract to stay with AZ until 2012. The club's director, Marcel Brands, called him a "cornerstone of the team." This meant Jaliens was a very important player for AZ. He helped AZ win the Eredivisie (the top Dutch football league) and the Dutch Super Cup in 2009. These were big achievements for the club!
Playing in Poland with Wisła Kraków
On January 26, 2011, Jaliens moved to Poland. He joined Ekstraklasa team Wisła Kraków on a free transfer from AZ. He signed a contract for two and a half years. Jaliens had a great start in Poland, winning the Ekstraklasa championship in his very first season (2010–11).
Adventures in Australia with Newcastle Jets
On August 15, 2013, it was announced that Jaliens would play for the Australian club Newcastle Jets.
He was even named captain of the Newcastle Jets for the 2014–15 season on August 4, 2014. Later, Jaliens moved on from the Jets during the 2014–15 A-League season.
Joining Melbourne City
Just two weeks after leaving Newcastle, Jaliens joined another A-League team, Melbourne City. He signed a short-term contract to help the team. In his very first game for Melbourne City, he scored one of the winning goals against his former club, Newcastle Jets!
Kew Jaliens' International Career
In 2006, Jaliens was called up to play for the senior Netherlands national team by coach Marco van Basten. He made his debut against Ecuador.
He was chosen for the 23-player Netherlands squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Jaliens played one game in the tournament, against Argentina. The Netherlands team did not let Argentina score any goals in that match.
Overall, Jaliens played for the Netherlands national team 10 times.
Representing the Netherlands at the Beijing Olympics
Jaliens was one of three older players chosen for the Netherlands football team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He played in all three group stage games against the United States, Japan, and Nigeria. However, he missed the quarterfinal match against Argentina because he had received too many yellow cards.

Kew Jaliens was born on September 15, 1978. His parents are Imro and Carmen Jaliens. He is also the nephew of Kenneth Jaliens, who is the technical director for the Surinamese national team.
