Playing Career: A Football Journey
Kew Jaliens played for several football clubs during his career. He started in the Netherlands and later played in Poland and Australia.
Starting Out at Sparta
Kew Jaliens began his football journey at Sparta. He made his first league appearance at 18 years old. This was on May 25, 1997, in a game against FC Groningen. Sparta won that game 2–1.
In the next season, 1997–98, Jaliens became a regular player. He played in most of the team's games. He finished his time at Sparta with 68 league games played. He scored 4 goals for the club.
Moving to Willem II
In 1999, Jaliens joined Willem II. His first game for them was on August 28, against FC Den Bosch. He scored his first goal for Willem II on February 3, 2001. This goal was in a match against FC Twente Enschede.
Success with AZ
Jaliens signed with AZ in 2004. His first game for AZ was on August 14, a 1–1 draw with SC Heerenveen. He scored his first goal for AZ on March 16, 2005, in a game against Vitesse Arnhem.
In July 2007, he signed a new contract with AZ until 2012. The club's director, Marcel Brands, called him a "cornerstone of the team." This means he was a very important player. Jaliens helped AZ win the Eredivisie league title in 2009. They also won the Dutch Super Cup that same year.
Playing in Poland: Wisła Kraków
On January 26, 2011, Jaliens moved to Poland. He joined Ekstraklasa team Wisła Kraków for free. He signed a contract for two and a half years. In his first season, 2010–11, Jaliens helped Wisła Kraków win the Ekstraklasa championship.
Adventures in Australia: Newcastle Jets
On August 15, 2013, it was announced that Jaliens would play for the Australian club Newcastle Jets.
On August 4, 2014, Jaliens was chosen as the captain of the Newcastle Jets. This was for the 2014–15 season.
Short Stay at Melbourne City
Just two weeks after leaving Newcastle, Jaliens joined another Australian team. He signed a short-term contract with Melbourne City. In his very first game for Melbourne City, he scored one of the winning goals against his old team, the Newcastle Jets.
International Career: Representing the Netherlands
In 2006, Kew Jaliens was called up to play for the senior Netherlands squad. He made his first appearance for his country against Ecuador.
He was chosen for the 23-player Netherlands team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. This big tournament was held in Germany. Jaliens played in one game during the World Cup. It was against Argentina, and the Netherlands did not let Argentina score any goals.
Jaliens played for the Netherlands national team 10 times in total.
Beijing Olympics Experience
Jaliens was also part of the Netherlands football team for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. He was one of three older players allowed on the team.
He played in all three group stage games at the Olympics. These games were against the United States, Japan, and Nigeria. However, he could not play in the quarterfinal game against Argentina. He missed it because he had received too many yellow cards.

Kew Jaliens was born on September 15, 1978. His parents are Imro and Carmen Jaliens. He is also the nephew of Kenneth Jaliens. Kenneth Jaliens is the technical director for the Surinamese national team.
