Keys is a small community in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, United States. It is known as an "unincorporated community" and a "census-designated place" (CDP). This means it's a recognized area for gathering population data, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2020, about 1,030 people lived in Keys.
Geography of Keys
Keys is located in the southern part of Cherokee County. It sits between two other communities: Park Hill to the north and Pettit to the south.
The eastern side of Keys touches the Illinois River. This river flows into the northern part of Tenkiller Ferry Lake, a large lake popular for outdoor activities.
Oklahoma State Highway 82 runs along the western and southern edges of Keys. This highway can take you about 8 miles (13 km) north to Tahlequah, which is the main city and county seat of Cherokee County. If you go southeast on the highway for about 5 miles (8 km), you'll reach Cherokee Landing State Park on Tenkiller Ferry Lake.
