Kickapoo, Kansas facts for kids

Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Kickapoo is a small place in Leavenworth County, Kansas, in the United States. It's called an "unincorporated community," which means it's a town that doesn't have its own local government like a city does. Instead, it's managed by the county. Kickapoo is also part of the larger Kansas City metropolitan area, which is a big region with many cities and towns close together.

The Story of Kickapoo

Kickapoo was first planned and settled in the year 1854. It got its name from the Kickapoo people, who are a Native American tribe with a rich history and culture.

For many years, Kickapoo was an important stop along the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Railroads were like the main travel routes of the past, and having a station meant that people and goods could easily travel to and from Kickapoo. This helped the community grow.

However, over time, things changed. The post office in Kickapoo, which was a central place for mail and community news, closed down in 1920.
