The Story of Kid Sensation
Starting His Music Career
Stephen Spence released his first album, Rollin' With Number One, on July 2, 1990. It came out on the Nastymix record label. He made several music videos for songs from this album.
One song, "Prisoner of Ignorance," told a story about a young man's life choices. Other popular songs from this album were "Seatown Ballers" and "Skin 2 Skin."
Two years later, in 1992, he released his second album. It was called The Power of Rhyme. This album also came out on Nastymix Records. The song "The Weekend" was the main single from this record. Interestingly, Seattle Mariners baseball star Ken Griffey Jr. was featured on a song called "The Way I Swing."
In 1995, Kid Sensation moved to a new record label, Ichiban International. He then released his third album, Seatown Funk. The song with the same name was the only single released from this CD.
Becoming Xola Malik
In the mid-1990s, Stephen Spence decided to change his stage name. He stopped using "Kid Sensation" and became known as Xola. He started focusing on producing music for other artists and projects.
Xola produced music for famous musicians and for sports teams. He created music for the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners. He also made ads and jingles for teams like the Green Bay Packers and San Antonio Spurs.
In 2009, Xola recorded a song for Ken Griffey Jr. called "Back Home." He also began acting in commercials. He even appeared in a movie called Safety Not Guaranteed.
Today, Xola Malik lives in Tacoma, Washington. He has re-recorded his old Kid Sensation albums. He made sure these new versions do not have any bad language. His more recent albums include Songs for Change (2010), Seasons (2012), and Looking Up (2016). The Looking Up album features a song with his old friend, Sir Mix A Lot, called "Love and Loyalty."
