Design of the Kijang Emas

The Kijang Emas coins have special designs on both sides.

Front Side Design

The front side of the coin shows a barking deer. This deer is called a "kijang" in Malaysia. It is shown in a natural Malaysian forest setting. You can also see the words "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA." This tells you that Malaysia's central bank made the coins. The coin's name, "KIJANG EMAS," is also on this side. It also shows the coin's weight, how pure its gold is, and the year it was made.

Back Side Design

The back side of the coin features the hibiscus flower. This flower is Malaysia's national flower. It also has the words "BANK NEGARA MALAYSIA" written in Jawi script. Jawi is an old writing style for the Malay language, using Arabic letters.

How Kijang Emas Coins are Priced

The price of Kijang Emas coins changes every day. Their buying and selling prices depend on the international gold market. This means the price of gold around the world sets the price for these coins.

For example, on January 18, 2008, a 1 oz coin cost RM3,052. A ½ oz coin was RM1,555, and a ¼ oz coin was RM792. On that day, gold was worth about US$879 per ounce in the world market.
