Kim Bracey is an American politician. A politician is someone who works in government. She served as the 24th Mayor of York, Pennsylvania. She held this important job from January 2010 to January 2018.
She made history as the first African American mayor of York. She was also the second woman to hold this important job. The first woman mayor was Betty Marshall. She served from 1978 to 1982.

Her Early Life
Kim Bracey was born in York, Pennsylvania. She went to William Penn Senior High School. After high school, she attended Bloomsburg University.
In 1984, she joined the United States Air Force. She served in the Air Force for 10 years. She left in 1994 with an honorable discharge. She reached the rank of technical sergeant. After leaving the Air Force, she returned to York. She started working at the Crispus Attucks Association.
Her Path to Politics
In 2003, York Mayor John Brenner chose Kim Bracey for a new role. She became the Director of the Department of Community Development. This department helps improve the city. She worked in this role from June 2003 to January 2009.
Mayor John S. Brenner decided not to run for mayor again in 2009. He supported Kim Bracey to become the next mayor. In January 2009, Bracey left her director job. She wanted to focus on her campaign to become mayor.
Becoming Mayor
Kim Bracey ran in the primary election on May 19, 2009. She won against three other candidates from her party. Then, she won the main election on November 3, 2009. She beat her opponent, Wendell Banks. Bracey received 2,582 votes, which was 81% of all votes. Banks received 602 votes.
Kim Bracey became York's 24th mayor on January 4, 2010. She was re-elected for a second term in 2013. However, she did not win her third election in 2017. Michael Helfrich became the new mayor on January 2, 2018.
