Kim Burrell's Music Career
Starting Her Music Journey (1989–2003)
Kim Burrell continued to perform with other choirs, like the Trinity Temple Full Gospel Mass Choir of Dallas. She also sang with The Inspirational Sounds Mass Choir of Houston. In 1996, she was a featured singer on a song called "Jesus Paid It All" on Ricky Dillard & New G's album Worked It Out.
Her first independent album, Try Me Again, came out in 1995. It was released by a small record label called Pearl Records in Texas. This album helped her get signed to Tommy Boy Gospel. With this label, she released another album, Everlasting Life, in 1998. This album reached number 10 on the Billboard Gospel Charts.
In November 2000, Burrell recorded a live album called Live In Concert. It was recorded in Memphis, Tennessee. This album was released in 2001 and was nominated for a Grammy Award in 2002. Even though Tommy Boy Gospel closed, she signed with Elektra Records in 2002. She also appeared on the gospel song "Higher Ground" with other artists. Kim Burrell has continued to perform live and work with many other musicians. She also created and hosts the Ephesians 4 conference, which is a workshop for performing artists.
