Kindertransport – The Arrival is a special outdoor sculpture in London, United Kingdom. You can find it at Liverpool Street station. This bronze artwork was made by Frank Meisler. It helps us remember about 10,000 Jewish children who found safety in Britain. They escaped from a very difficult time in Europe between 1938 and 1939. Many of these children arrived right at Liverpool Street station.

What is the Kindertransport?

The Kindertransport (which means "children's transport" in German) was a rescue mission. It happened just before World War II. Thousands of Jewish children were in danger in countries like Germany and Austria. They were facing unfair treatment and violence.

This mission helped these children leave their homes. They traveled by train and boat to safety. Many of them came to the United Kingdom. It was a huge effort to save young lives.

Why was the Kindertransport needed?

During the late 1930s, Jewish people faced terrible danger. The Nazi Party in Germany was in power. They treated Jewish people very cruelly. Many families knew their children needed to leave.

The Kindertransport offered a way out. It was often the only hope for these children. They had to leave their parents behind. This was a very brave and sad journey for them.

The Sculpture's Story

The Kindertransport – The Arrival sculpture shows a group of children. They are standing with their suitcases. This represents the young refugees arriving in London. It reminds us of their courage and the help they received.

The memorial was put in place in September 2006. It replaced an earlier sculpture. That one was called Für Das Kind (For the Child). The new sculpture was ordered by two groups. These were World Jewish Relief and the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR). These groups help Jewish people.
