Father | King Ling of Zhou |
King Jǐng of Zhou, whose personal name was Ji Gui, was an important ruler in ancient China. He was the twenty-fourth king of the Zhou dynasty, a long-lasting period in Chinese history. King Jǐng became king after his father, King Ling of Zhou, passed away. He ruled for many years, from 544 BC to 520 BC. During his time as king, the country faced tough financial challenges. This meant the government had very little money, and they even had to buy supplies from nearby states. King Jǐng died in 520 BC due to an illness. His son, King Dao of Zhou, briefly became king after him.

King Jǐng's Time as Ruler
Becoming King
King Jǐng took the throne in 544 BC. He followed in the footsteps of his father, King Ling. The Zhou dynasty had been around for a long time, and by King Jǐng's reign, its power was not as strong as it once was.
Challenges During His Reign
One of the biggest problems King Jǐng faced was the country's money situation. The kingdom was in a state of financial ruin. This means they had very little money to run the country. Because of this, they often had to buy important supplies from other states nearby. It was a difficult time to be a king.
His Family and Successors
King Jǐng had several children who played roles in the future of the Zhou dynasty. His main queen was Queen Mu. She was the mother of his first son, Crown Prince Shou.
King Jǐng also had other sons:
- Prince Chao, who later fled to the state of Chu.
- Crown Prince Meng, who became King Dao of Zhou for a short time after King Jǐng's death.
- Prince Gai, who later ruled as King Jìng of Zhou (a different king with a similar name).
King Jǐng passed away in 520 BC. His son, King Dao of Zhou, became king but only for a very short period.
