King Dao of Zhou (Chinese: 周悼王; pinyin: Zhōu Dào Wáng; died 520 BC) was an important ruler in ancient China. His personal name was Ji Meng. He was the twenty-fifth king of the Zhou dynasty, which was a very long-lasting period in Chinese history. He was also the thirteenth king of the Eastern Zhou period.
Who Was King Dao of Zhou?
King Dao's given name was Měng. He became king after his father, King Jĭng of Zhou, passed away. The Zhou dynasty was a powerful kingdom, but by the time King Dao ruled, its power was starting to fade. Many smaller states were becoming stronger.
A Very Short Reign
King Dao of Zhou had a very short time as king. He ruled for less than one year. His reign ended suddenly when his brother, Prince Chao, took over the throne. After King Dao's death, his other brother, King Jìng of Zhou, became the next king.
