King Kang of Zhou (Chinese: 周康王), whose personal name was Ji Zhao, was an important ruler in ancient China. He was the third king of the Zhou dynasty, a powerful kingdom that ruled China for many centuries. King Kang was the son of the previous king, King Cheng of Zhou. He ruled from around 1020 BC to 996 BC, or possibly from 1005 BC to 978 BC.
A Time of Peace and Growth
King Kang continued the good work of his father, King Cheng. He helped the Zhou dynasty grow even stronger. During his rule, the Zhou kingdom expanded its lands to the north and west. This meant more people and more resources for the kingdom.
He also had to deal with some problems. There was a rebellion in the eastern parts of the kingdom, but King Kang successfully stopped it. This showed his strength as a leader. Because of his good leadership, life was peaceful and prosperous for the people of the Zhou dynasty. This time is often remembered as a period of great success.
His Family and Successor
King Kang had a wife named Wang Jiang. She was from the Jiang clan. Together, they had a son named Xia.

After King Kang passed away, his son, Crown Prince Xia, became the next ruler. He was known as King Zhao of Zhou. King Zhao continued the royal line of the Zhou dynasty.
