The show was written by Bob Baker and Dave Martin. It tells a strange story about a lonely boy named Roland Wright. Roland lives in a flat with his dad, Ron, and his stepmom, June. One day, he tries to escape from bullies using a broken lift. Instead, he finds himself in a weird fantasy world. In this world, people and places look like twisted versions of his real life.

Philip Da Costa played Roland. Other important actors included Talfryn Thomas, Fulton Mackay, Milton Johns, and Angela Richards.

About the Story

King of the Castle is a unique show because it mixes real life with a dream-like fantasy world. Roland's journey helps him face his fears and problems from his everyday life. The show explores themes like loneliness, bullying, and finding courage.

Roland's Journey Begins

The story starts with Roland Wright moving into a new block of flats. The building has a broken lift and a dangerous staircase. Roland is smart and kind, which makes him a target for a gang leader called Ripper. Ripper and his gang often bother Roland on the stairways.

Entering the Castle World

While trying to escape the bullies, Roland gets stuck in a faulty lift. This lift somehow takes him to a strange, new world. This world is known as the Castle. Here, Roland meets unusual characters like Vein, who guards the keys.

Facing Challenges

In the Castle world, Roland faces many dangers. He has to run from characters like Hawkspur and Ergon. He also meets a powerful Warrior. Roland narrowly escapes these threats. Later, he meets the Lady, who claims to be able to see the future.

Trapped in the Castle

Roland is captured by a castle guard. He is forced to work in the kitchens as a servant. He tries to plan an escape, but someone betrays him. This leaves him trapped inside the Castle.

Confronting the Lord

Roland decides to argue his case in front of the Lord of the Castle. After some difficulty, he gets past the waiting room. He then comes face-to-face with the Warrior again. Roland tries to make changes in the Castle before he can escape. However, many characters are plotting against him.

The Final Trial

In the last episode, Roland is put on trial. All the witnesses who speak against him are unfriendly. Finally, Roland has to face his old enemy, Ripper, in a big confrontation. This final meeting decides Roland's fate in both worlds.
