History of Kings Restaurants

Kings Family Restaurants began in 1967 in North Versailles, Pennsylvania. It was first called Kings Country Shoppes. Later, the name changed to Kings Family Restaurants. This new name helped people know it was a place to eat, not a store.

By 1980, there were 7 Kings restaurants. By 1990, this number grew to 24. In 2006, Kings had 34 locations across Pennsylvania and one in Wintersville, Ohio.

Kings also helps many good causes. They donate to groups like the Veterans Leadership Program. They also support the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Western Pennsylvania. This foundation helps make wishes come true for children with serious illnesses.

In July 2009, Kings opened a new restaurant called Kings Hometown Grille. This new place had a different look and menu. It was a new idea for the Kings chain.

In 2015, a company called Kelly Capital bought Kings Family Restaurants. On March 26, 2017, five of the oldest Kings locations closed. These were the restaurants in Wexford, Bridgeville, Imperial, Harmarville, and Altoona.

What Kings Serves

Kings restaurants serve classic American food. You can find sandwiches, fresh salads, and juicy burgers on their menu. They also offer tasty ice cream and thick milkshakes.

Kings was once famous for its Frownie Brownies. These were a special dessert. The Frownie Brownie was taken off the menu for a while. But good news! The Frownie Brownie returned to the menu in March 2019.

Smoking Rules at Kings

For many years, most Kings restaurants had special sections for smoking. This changed in September 2008. A new law was passed in Pennsylvania that banned smoking in public places, including restaurants. After this law, Kings no longer had smoking sections.
