Kirksey is a small, unincorporated community located in Calloway County, Kentucky, in the United States. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live together, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's usually managed by the county.
The Story of Kirksey's Post Office
How Kirksey Got Its Name
Kirksey got its name from Stephen Franklin Kirksey. He was the Post Master who started the post office there on July 14, 1871. Before this, the same building was used as a post office from 1857 to 1860. Back then, it was known as Radford, Kentucky.
When it was time to name the new post office, local residents wanted names like Reedville or Rosedale. However, Post Master Kirksey decided to submit his own name to the U.S. Post Office. That's how this community became known as Kirksey!
