Kitty Crowther (born 4 April 1970) is a talented Belgian illustrator and writer. She is famous for creating wonderful children's books. In 2010, she won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. This is the biggest prize in children's literature, given for her amazing work in books for young people.

About Kitty Crowther
Kitty Crowther was born on April 4, 1970, in Uccle, Belgium. Her father was British, and her mother was Swedish. She grew up in Brussels, Belgium. Today, she lives in Blanmont with her husband and their two sons.
Her Education and Work
Kitty studied Graphic Arts at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels. This helped her learn how to draw and design. She mostly writes in French, but sometimes in Dutch too. By 2010, she had created about 35 of her own books. She has also drawn pictures for books by other writers, like Carl Norac and Toon Tellegen.
First Books and Awards
Kitty Crowther's first book was Mon royaume (which means My kingdom) in 1994. In 1997, she received a special award called "Vlag en Wimpel" for her illustrated book Mon ami Jim. This award recognized her great talent.
She continued to win more awards. In 2003, she got the Silver Pencil for her book In het pikkedonker (In the pitch dark). She won another Silver Pencil in 2005 for Kleine Dood en het meisje (Little Death and the girl).
The Astrid Lindgren Award
In 2010, Kitty Crowther received the very important Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. This award is given by the Swedish Arts Council. The people who chose her for the award said she was "the master of line but also of atmosphere." This means her drawings are not just good, but they also create a special feeling in her books.
