Kitty Crowther, born on April 4, 1970, is a talented Belgian artist. She writes and illustrates wonderful books for children. She is famous for her amazing work in children's books. In 2010, she won the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. This is a huge award, often called the 'Nobel Prize' of children's literature!

About Kitty Crowther

Kitty Crowther has a unique family background. Her father was British, and her mother was Swedish. She was born and grew up in Uccle, a town near Brussels, Belgium. Today, she lives in Blanmont, Belgium, with her husband and their two sons.

She studied Graphic Arts at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels. Kitty mainly creates books in French. Sometimes, she also works in Dutch. As of 2010, she had created about 35 of her own books. She has also drawn pictures for books by other authors. Some of these authors include Carl Norac, Bart Moeyaert, and Toon Tellegen.

Her First Books and Awards

Kitty Crowther's first book, Mon royaume (which means My kingdom), came out in 1994. In 1997, she received a special award called "Vlag en Wimpel." She earned this award for her illustrated book Mon ami Jim.

She received more awards later on. In 2003, she won the Silver Pencil for her book In het pikkedonker (In the pitch dark). She won another Silver Pencil in 2005 for Kleine Dood en het meisje (Little Death and the girl).

In 2010, she received the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Award. The jury that chose her for the award said she was "the master of line but also of atmosphere." This means they loved her drawing style and how she created feelings in her stories.
