Antonius Otto Hermannus (Toon) Tellegen was born on November 18, 1941. He is a famous Dutch writer, poet, and even a doctor! He is best known for his amazing children's books. Many of his stories feature talking animals, especially a clever ant and a friendly squirrel. Grown-ups also love his books because they are funny and make you think. In 2006, he was even a finalist for the big international Hans Christian Andersen Award for children's writers. This award celebrates the best children's writers in the world.

About Toon Tellegen's Life

Toon Tellegen was born in a Dutch town called Brielle. He studied medicine at the University of Utrecht. After becoming a doctor, he worked as a general practitioner in Amsterdam. This means he was a family doctor helping people with their health.

For many years, Toon Tellegen wrote books mainly for adults. But then, he started writing stories for children. His very first children's book came out in 1984. It was called Er ging geen dag voorbij (which means Not A Day Went By). This book had 49 stories about the squirrel and other animals. In many of his stories, the ant and the squirrel are the main characters. These tales often make readers think about big ideas, like friendship and life. Toon Tellegen is still writing wonderful stories today!
