Kjeld Nuis (born on November 10, 1989, in Leiden, Netherlands) is a super fast Dutch speed skater. He's known for being one of the best in middle-distance races, especially the 1000 and 1500 meters.

Kjeld has won many gold medals at the Winter Olympics. He won both the 1000 m and 1500 m races at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. Four years later, at the 2022 Winter Olympics, he won the 1500 m race again! He even broke an Olympic record in the 1500 m, finishing in 1:43:21. He also holds the current world record for the 1500 meters.

Speed Skating Career

Kjeld Nuis is a three-time Olympic champion, which means he has won three gold medals at the Winter Olympics. He first won two gold medals in 2018 for the 1000 meters and 1500 meters races. He then won another gold medal in the 1500 meters in 2022.

He has also won two world titles in single-distance championships for both the 1000 and 1500 meters. He has earned many other medals at these world championships too. Kjeld has also won the overall World Cup four times for the 1000 meters and twice for the 1500 meters. This shows he's consistently one of the best skaters in the world!

Breaking World Records

On March 10, 2019, Kjeld set a new world record for the 1500-meter race. He finished in an amazing time of 1:40:17 at the Utah Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City. Just one day before that, in the same place, he also broke the world record for the 1000 meters, with a time of 1:06:18. This record was later broken by another skater in 2020.

Kjeld is not just fast on ice. On March 17, 2022, in Savalen, Norway, he set a new world speed skating record for speed itself! He reached an incredible speed of 103 kilometers per hour (about 64 miles per hour). This was 10 km/h faster than his own record from four years earlier.
