Klaus Berntsen (born June 12, 1844 – died March 27, 1927) was an important Danish politician. He was a member of the Liberal party, called Venstre. He served as the leader of Denmark, known as the Council President, from 1910 to 1913. He also worked as the Minister of Defence and the Minister of the Interior.

Klaus Berntsen was born on June 12, 1844. He had two sons, Aage Berntsen and Oluf Berntsen.
Early Political Life
From a young age, Klaus Berntsen was active in politics. He was known for being smart and popular when he spoke to crowds. At first, he belonged to a group called the Moderate Venstre. This meant he did not have much political power for many years.
Later, different groups within the Venstre party started to work together. This helped Klaus Berntsen become more important. He became a minister, which is a high-ranking government official. This led to him forming his own government.
Leading Denmark
Klaus Berntsen became the Council President of Denmark in 1910. This is like being the prime minister. He was good friends with King Frederik VIII, and the King supported him.
During his time as Council President, he suggested changing the country's Constitution. The Constitution is a set of rules for how the country is governed. These changes were later completed by another government.
A Long Career
Klaus Berntsen was a member of the Folketing, which is the Danish Parliament. He served in Parliament from 1873 to 1884 and again from 1886 to 1926. This means he was a member for more than 50 years! He holds the record for being the longest-serving member of the Danish Parliament. He retired from politics in 1926.
Klaus Berntsen passed away on March 27, 1927.
