In 1986, during the Winter Olympic Games, something very unusual happened to Klaus. The CIA, which is a spy agency, did not want him to win a gold medal. To stop him, they used a special device. This device transferred his mind from his human body into the body of a goldfish! This strange event left him trapped as a fish forever.

When Klaus first appeared on American Dad!, he was a bit of a tough guy. He often made harsh comments and seemed to enjoy teasing the Smith family. Over time, his role in the family changed. Now, he is often the one who gets teased or picked on by the other characters. Despite this, Klaus is still a big part of the family.
