Kleve (also known as Cleves in English) is an important town in Germany. It is located in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. In 2016, about 50,000 people lived there. Kleve is special because it sits right on the famous Rhine River. It also shares a border with the Netherlands, making it a gateway between the two countries.

History of Kleve

Kleve has a long and interesting history. It used to be the main city of something called the Duchy of Cleves. A duchy was like a small country ruled by a duke or duchess. This duchy existed for many centuries before it was dissolved in 1795. This means Kleve was once a very powerful and important place in the region.

Nature and Green Spaces

One of the cool things about Kleve is its natural surroundings. Part of the town's land includes a very old forest called the Klever Reichswald. This forest has been around since the Middle Ages. It's a great place for outdoor activities and exploring nature.
