Koichiro Katafuchi, also known as 片渕 浩一郎, was born on April 29, 1975. He is a famous Japanese football player and manager. He played as a forward and later became a coach. Currently, he is the assistant manager for Sagan Tosu.
Playing Career
Koichiro Katafuchi was born in Saga Prefecture, Japan. After finishing his studies at Tokai University, he joined a football club called Sagan Tosu in 1998. This club was based in his hometown. At that time, Sagan Tosu was part of the Japan Football League.
In 1999, his team, Sagan Tosu, moved up to a new league called J2 League. On March 28, 1999, Koichiro Katafuchi achieved something special. He scored three goals in one game against Consadole Sapporo. Scoring three goals in a single game is called a hat-trick. He was the very first player in the J2 League to score a hat-trick!
By 2000, he became a regular player for his team. This means he played in most of their games. However, in 2001, he faced a challenge. He couldn't play many matches because of an injury to his right knee.
In 2002, he moved to another J2 League club, Albirex Niigata. Unfortunately, he didn't get to play much there either. At the end of the 2002 season, Koichiro Katafuchi decided to retire from playing professional football.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing, Koichiro Katafuchi started a new path in football: coaching. He began his coaching career at Albirex Niigata in 2003. For many years, until 2015, he coached the youth teams at the club. This means he helped train younger players.
In 2016, he became a coach for the main team at Albirex Niigata. He worked under the manager, Tatsuma Yoshida. However, the team's results were not very good that year. Because of this, Yoshida was removed from his position in September. Koichiro Katafuchi then stepped in as the new manager. He led the team until the end of the 2016 season. Under his management, the club managed to stay in the top league, J1 League.
In 2017, he went back to being a coach for the main team. A new manager, Fumitake Miura, took over. But once again, the team had poor results. Miura was also removed in May. Koichiro Katafuchi became the manager again for a short time. He was a caretaker manager, meaning he managed the team temporarily until a new permanent manager, Wagner Lopes, was hired.
In August 2018, he became the manager of Albirex Niigata for a third time. He took over after Masakazu Suzuki. He continued in this role until April 2019, when he was removed from the position.
