Koji Miyata, born on January 15, 1923, is a former Japanese football player. He was a midfielder who played for the Japan national team. He also had a career as a football manager after he stopped playing.

Playing for Clubs

Koji Miyata was born in Japan. After finishing his studies at Waseda University, he joined a football team called Tanabe Pharmaceutical in 1946. He played for this club for many years.

Playing for Japan

In March 1951, Miyata was chosen to play for the Japan national team. This was the first time the Japanese team played an international game after World War II. His first game was on March 7, 1951, against Iran at the 1951 Asian Games.

He also played in the 1954 Asian Games. In total, he played 6 games for the Japan national team between 1951 and 1954.

Coaching Career

After he stopped playing football, Koji Miyata became a manager. In 1961, he started managing his old club, Tanabe Pharmaceutical.

In 1968, his team joined the Japanese Regional Leagues. Later, they moved to a new division called the Japan Soccer League Division 2. In the 1972 season, he led his team to finish in second place. This helped them get promoted to Division 1, which was the top league.

However, in the 1973 season, his team finished last in Division 1. After that season, he decided to step down as manager.
