Konstantin Scherbakov was born on June 11, 1963, in Barnaul, Russia. He is a famous Russian-Swiss pianist. A pianist is someone who plays the piano. He won the very first Rachmaninoff piano competition in Moscow in 1983. This was a big achievement! In 1990, he performed four solo concerts at a music festival in Asolo. This helped him start his amazing career all over the world.
Musical Recordings and Awards
Konstantin Scherbakov has recorded many albums for Naxos Records. These recordings include all of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concertos. He also recorded all nine Beethoven symphonies. These were special versions arranged for the piano by Franz Liszt.
Critics have praised his work highly. Gramophone magazine said he plays with "delicacy and affection." The German Critics' Circle gave him their top award twice. One award was for his recording of Godowsky's Sonata in E minor. The other was for Liszt's very difficult piano version of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. His recording of Shostakovich's Twenty-Four Preludes and Fugues was called "a triumph." It also won a classical music award in Cannes in 2001.
Teaching and Judging Music
Since 1998, Konstantin Scherbakov has been a professor. He teaches at the Zurich University of the Arts in Switzerland. He also helps judge major international music competitions. Some of these include the ARD Munich and Busoni competitions.
Mr. Scherbakov regularly teaches special master classes around the world. He has taught in Germany, Italy, Switzerland, and many other countries. Many of his students have won awards in international competitions. One of his students, Yulianna Avdeeva, won the International Chopin Competition in 2010.

Konstantin Scherbakov has lived with his family in Zurich, Switzerland, since 1992. He also spends a lot of his time in Spain and Russia.
