The Kootenay Ranges, also known as the Western Ranges, are a group of mountains in British Columbia, Canada. They are part of the larger Canadian Rockies mountain system. These ranges are a special place where a major river, the Kootenay River, begins its long journey.
What are the Kootenay Ranges?
The Kootenay Ranges are one of three main parts of the Continental Ranges. The Continental Ranges make up the southern half of the huge Canadian Rockies. The other two parts are called the Front Ranges and the Park Ranges. The Park Ranges are the largest of these three groups.
Where are the Kootenay Ranges Located?
You can find the Kootenay Ranges in southeastern British Columbia. They stretch between the Bull River to the east and the town of Golden, British Columbia to the west. These mountains are also located south of a well-known mountain pass called Kicking Horse Pass.
