Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages facts for kids
Korea Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages is a group that helps teachers who teach English as a Foreign Language (EFL). EFL means teaching English to people in countries where English is not the main language. This group is often called KOTESOL for short. It is like a club for teachers who want to get better at their job and share ideas.
How KOTESOL Began
KOTESOL started in 1992. It was formed when two other groups, the Association of English Teachers in Korea (AETK) and the Korea Association of Teachers of English (KATE), decided to join together. This made a bigger and stronger group to support English teachers.
KOTESOL's Local Groups
KOTESOL has smaller groups called Chapters. These Chapters are like local clubs where members can meet up in their own areas. They help teachers connect with others nearby and share teaching tips. Here are some of the Chapters:
- Busan-Gyeongnam
- Daegu-Gyeongbuk
- Daejeon-Chungcheong
- Gangwon
- Gwangju-Jeonnam
- International Community
- Jeju
- Jeonju-North Jeolla
- Seoul
- Suwon-Gyeonggi
- Yongin-Gyeonggi
The Big KOTESOL Meeting
Every year, KOTESOL holds a special event called an annual conference. This is a big meeting where teachers can learn new things. They listen to experts speak, share their own ideas, and join workshops to practice new teaching skills. It's also a great chance to meet other teachers and make new friends.
Working with Other Groups
KOTESOL works with many other groups that also help language teachers. These partnerships mean that KOTESOL can share ideas and learn from groups all over the world. Some of their partners include:
- Australian Council of TESOL Associations (ACTA)
- English Teachers' Association of the Republic of China (ETA-ROC)
- Far Eastern English Language Teachers Association (FEELTA) of Russia
- Philippine Association for Language Teaching, Inc (PALT)
- Japan Association for Language Teaching
- TESOL International Association
- Thailand TESOL (ThaiTESOL)
