Korokoro is a lovely suburb found in Lower Hutt City, New Zealand. It's located on the southern part of the North Island. This area sits on the western hills of the Hutt Valley. From its eastern slopes, you can see Petone and the beautiful Wellington harbour.
Korokoro's History
Korokoro was first set up in the 1900s. This happened under the "Liberal government" of New Zealand. This was a group of leaders who ran the country at that time. For a while, Korokoro stayed quite small. But in the 1960s, the Lower Hutt City Council built many new houses here. This helped the area grow a lot. Before 1989, Korokoro was part of the Petone Borough. That year, it joined up with Lower Hutt City.

Korokoro is about 1.85 square kilometers in size. As of 2023, about 1,620 people live here. This means there are about 876 people for every square kilometer.
The population has been growing steadily. In 2018, there were 1,482 people living in Korokoro. This was a good increase from 2013 and 2006. There were 540 homes, with almost an equal number of males and females. The average age of people living here was about 37.9 years old. About 21% of the people were under 15 years old.
Most people in Korokoro are of European background (about 85%). There are also people from Māori, Asian, and Pasifika backgrounds. About a quarter of the people living here were born outside New Zealand.
