History of Kotli
The city of Kotli has a long history, going all the way back to the 1400s. It was first settled by a part of the royal Jarral family from Kashmir, led by Raja Aghar Khan. Back then, it was called Kohtali, which means "under the mountain."
Kotli was independent for a long time. But in 1819, it was taken over by Ranjit Singh, a powerful ruler.
After Pakistan and India became independent from British rule, in November 1947, local volunteers and soldiers took control of Kotli. Later, there were battles for control of Kotli, but it has remained under Pakistani control since then.
