Krishnagiri district is a region located in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is a newer district, created in 2004 from parts of the Dharmapuri district. The main town and headquarters of the district is Krishnagiri.

Krishnagiri district was the first place in Tamil Nadu to use "e-Governance" (electronic government services) as a test project. This helped make government services easier to access. The district is also well-known for growing a huge amount of mangoes, making it one of India's biggest mango producers. In 2011, Krishnagiri district had a population of 1,879,809 people.

Natural Resources and Industries

Krishnagiri district is rich in natural resources, which support various industries and provide jobs for many people.

Mining Activities

The district has many quarries where different types of stones are dug up.

  • Granite: People get permission to dig for granite on private lands.
  • Rough Stone and Earth: These are also quarried from both government and private lands.
  • Sand: The Public Works Department (a government group) digs for sand in riverbeds.
  • State-Owned Mining: A company owned by the state, called Tamil Nadu Metals and Mineral Ltd, also has permission to mine on government lands.

These mining activities provide jobs for about 7,000 workers in the district.

Forestry and Forest Products

Krishnagiri district has a large amount of forest land, covering about 202,409 hectares. This makes up 39% of the district's total area. These forests provide many useful products:

  • Bamboo: Used to make various items.
  • Honey: Collected from beehives in the forests.
  • Tamarind: A fruit widely used in cooking.

These forest activities are common in areas like Anchetty, Denkanikotta, Thally, and Berigai. They create many job opportunities for people living in the countryside.
