Hosur's Past: A Glimpse into History

Hosur has a long and interesting history. In the 13th century, during the Chola period, it was known as Murasu Nadu. By the 16th century, it started being called Hosur, which is its name today.
Ancient Temples and Rulers
The Chandrachoodeshwara Swamy Temple is very old, built in the 11th century. It has writings that show how the Hoysalas helped the temple around 1200 CE. After the Hoysalas, the area became part of the Vijayanagara Empire.
Later, Hosur was part of the Kingdom of Mysore. In the late 1700s, the British fought a war with Tipu Sultan. After losing, Tipu Sultan gave the southern part of his kingdom to the British in 1801.
Hosur Becomes an Industrial City
During the 1980s, Hosur started to grow into an industrial town. This happened with help from the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu. More factories and businesses came to the city.
Hosur has grown a lot over the years. It started as a small town council in 1962. It became a municipality (a bigger town government) in 1992 and then a special grade municipality in 1998. Finally, in 2019, Hosur became one of the 21 municipal corporations in Tamil Nadu. This means it's now a major city with its own city government.

The city's main leader is the Mayor. The Mayor and other city officials, called councillors, are chosen by the people who live in Hosur through voting. This helps make sure the city is run fairly for everyone.
