The unique handlebar shape was chosen to honor Victor Emmanuel II. He was the very first king of a united Italy. He was known for his impressive mustache.

Krumiri quickly became very popular and received important awards. They were recognized for their delicious taste and quality.

Royal Recognition for Krumiri

In 1884, Krumiri won a bronze medal at a big exhibition in Turin. The next year, the people who made Krumiri received a special honor called a Royal Warrant. This meant they were allowed to supply their biscuits to the Duke of Aosta, who was a very important royal family member.

More royal honors followed. In 1886, they received a warrant from the Duke of Genoa. Then, in 1891, King Umberto I also gave them a royal warrant. This showed how much the royal family enjoyed Krumiri.

A Traditional Italian Food

Today, Krumiri are still very special. They are included in an official list of traditional foods from the Piedmont region of Italy. This list is called Prodotto agroalimentare tradizionale. It helps protect and celebrate important local foods.
