Kunnathur (pronounced Kunnattūr) is a small area in the Kollam district of Kerala, a state in India. It is known as a taluk, which is a type of administrative division, like a county or sub-district.

The main town and capital of Kunnathur taluk is Sasthamkotta. This area is famous for being home to most of Sasthamcotta Lake. This lake is the largest freshwater lake in Kerala.

Geography of Kunnathur

Kunnathur is located in the southern part of Kerala. The Kallada River flows through the eastern side of Kunnathur. It passes close to the Kokkamkave Durga Devi Temple. Kunnathur is on the border of the Kollam district. It also shares a border with the Pathanamthitta district. Kunnathur is actually the smallest taluk in all of Kerala.

Kunnathur is part of an assembly constituency. This means people living here vote for a representative. This person then helps make laws for the state. The current elected representative for the Kunnathur assembly constituency is Kovoor Kunjumon. He belongs to the RSP(L) political party.
