The community of Kurtz was named after a man named Colonel Harry Kurtz. He was a very important person for the area. Colonel Kurtz was a lawyer for a railroad company called the Evansville & Richmond Railroad.
He played a big role in making sure the train tracks were built through Owen and Salt Creek Townships. The railroad was a huge deal back then! It helped people travel and moved goods like crops and supplies. Because of his efforts, the community was named Kurtz to honor him.
