The Kusilvak Mountains are a mountain range found in Alaska, a large state in the United States. These mountains are located in a unique area called the Yukon–Kuskokwim Delta, which is a huge river delta. The mountains are so important that the Kusilvak Census Area is named after them! You can also find them right next to Nunavakanuk Lake.

Exploring the Kusilvak Mountains

The Kusilvak Mountains might not be the tallest in the world, but they are an important part of Alaska's landscape.

How Tall Are They?

The highest point in the Kusilvak Mountains reaches about 2,241 feet. To give you an idea, that's like climbing over 200 stories high! The range also stretches out for more than 5 miles.

What's in a Name?

The name Kusilvak comes from Russian and Eskimo words. In the Yup'ik language, which is spoken by many native people in Alaska, these mountains are called Ingrill’er or Manialnguq.

Long ago, on old Russian maps, the mountains were called Ingieguk. This name probably also came from an Eskimo language word for "mountain."
