Building the Bridge

The Kutz Memorial Bridge was designed by a famous architect named Paul Philippe Cret. He drew up the plans for the bridge in 1941. Building the bridge was a big job!

The actual construction work was done by the Alexander & Repass Company. They finished building the bridge in 1943. It was a busy time for construction, even during World War II.

Who Was Charles Kutz?

The bridge is named after a special person, Brigadier General Charles W. Kutz. He was an important engineer for Washington, D.C. He helped plan many projects in the city.

Bridge Dedication

The bridge was officially named and dedicated in his honor in 1954. This means a ceremony was held to celebrate the bridge and remember General Kutz.
