Kwikwetlem facts for kids
The Kwikwetlem are an Indigenous people from the Coast Salish group. Their name is used for the modern city of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. Their traditional lands and current reserves are found in Coquitlam and nearby cities like Port Coquitlam and Port Moody.
The Kwikwetlem people speak a language called Hunquminum. This is a special type, or dialect, of the larger Halkomelem language. It's known as the Downriver Dialect. They are organized as the Kwikwetlem First Nation, which used to be called the Coquitlam Indian Band. They have close ties to their neighbours, the Kwantlen and Katzie peoples.
