Kwok Tak-seng (born March 12, 1911 – died October 30, 1990) was a very successful businessman from Hong Kong. He was the person who started Sun Hung Kai Properties. This company became one of the biggest businesses in Hong Kong that builds and sells properties.
Kwok Tak-seng's Early Life
Kwok Tak-seng was born in a place called Macau. His family originally came from a town in China called Zhongshan. After World War II ended, he moved to Hong Kong.
Building a Business Empire
In 1963, Kwok Tak-seng teamed up with two other businessmen, Fung King-hey and Lee Shau-kee. Together, they started a company called Sun Hung Kai Enterprises. This company later became Sun Hung Kai Properties.
Sun Hung Kai Properties became a public company in 1972. This meant that people could buy shares of the company on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. Soon, it grew to be one of the most valuable companies listed there.
Kwok Tak-seng was also recognized for his achievements. In 1986, he was given an award called the OBE. This award is a special honor given by the British government. He also served as a director for another big property company, New World Development.
Family and Legacy
Kwok Tak-seng was married to Kwong Siu-hing. They had three sons named Walter Kwok, Thomas Kwok, and Raymond Kwok.
Kwok Tak-seng passed away on October 30, 1990, when he was 79 years old. He died from a heart attack.
After his death, his oldest son, Walter, took over as the chairman of Sun Hung Kai Properties. Later, in 2008, his wife, Kwong Siu-hing, became the chairman of the company.
