Kyana is a small, unincorporated community in Dubois County, Indiana. It is located in Jackson Township along Indiana State Road 64. An unincorporated community means it's a place with a shared identity but no local government.

History of Kyana
Kyana was officially planned and laid out in 1883. The town used to have its own ZIP code until 1980.
How Kyana Started
The town grew because a new railroad was being built nearby. This was the Louisville, Evansville & St. Louis Railroad. A company called Louisville Mining & Manufacturing started the town. The name 'Kyana' comes from two states. 'Ky' is short for Kentucky, and 'ana' is from Indiana.
Kyana's Post Office
Kyana had its own post office for many years. It opened in 1882 and served the community. The post office closed down in 1982.
Plane Crash in 1948
In 1948, a small training plane crashed near Kyana. A pilot named William Mullen, Jr. was flying the plane. Sadly, the passenger, Emil Prechtel, was seriously hurt and passed away. The pilot survived the accident.
