Kyle Lukoff is a talented author who writes books for children. He used to be a school librarian and worked in bookstores. He is famous for his award-winning book, When Aidan Became a Brother. Another one of his books, Call Me Max, has also received a lot of attention.

Kyle Lukoff is a transgender man. He began his transition in 2004. This was while he was studying at Barnard College. Barnard College is a school that was historically for women. Many of Kyle's books focus on stories about transgender children. He is also Jewish.

His Education Journey

Kyle Lukoff went to Edmonds-Woodway High School. He then graduated from Barnard College in 2006. While at Barnard, he was part of Columbia University's Philolexian Society. This is a very old literary and debate group. In 2012, he earned his Master's degree in library science from Queens College.

Kyle's Writing Career

Kyle Lukoff worked as a school librarian. He was at the Corlears School in New York City. In 2020, he decided to leave his job. He wanted to write books full-time.

His very first book was A Storytelling of Ravens. It was published in 2018. Natalie Nelson created the illustrations for this book. His second book, When Aidan Became a Brother, came out next. Kaylani Juanita drew the pictures for it. This book tells the story of a transgender boy. He is getting ready to welcome a new sibling. The book was published by Lee & Low. This is a special publisher known for new authors and illustrators of color.

Kyle also started the Max and Friends series. The first book, Call Me Max, was released in November 2019. Luciano Luzano illustrated this book. In April 2020, he published Explosion at the Poem Factory. Mark Hoffman was the illustrator for this one. In 2021, he released Too Bright to See. This book won the Stonewall award. It also received a Newbery Honor. It was even a finalist for the National Book Award for Young People's Literature. He also wrote a book called Different Kinds of Fruit.
